The
THRASS Phoneme Machine is a FREE computer programme that uses moving human lips to
pronounce the sounds (phonemes) in hundreds of frequently used English
words. It is an excellent resource for teachers, assistants and parents for
learning about, and also teaching, the fundamental building blocks of English in
an entertaining and fun way.
The Phoneme Machine is accredited by market leader SMART Technologies Inc for use on its interactive whiteboards in
the THRASS UK licensed territory.
The
Phoneme Machine develops a
good understanding of the 44 sounds and the 120 main spelling choices of
English. This understanding is largely achieved by ‘blending all the sounds
through a word’, a key recommendation of the British Government’s recent report
on Synthetic Phonics. The programme is suitable for learners of all ages and
abilities and has been found to be particularly helpful to parents of children starting to read,
children finding reading difficult and those for whom English is not their first
language.

in the four-year scheme of work
THRASS 15 Minutes a Day x 2
(primarily for children aged 4 – 7 who have English as their first language but
which can be adapted to make it suitable for all
other learners).
It also
includes interactive Calendar Charts for a growing number of African, Asian and
European languages, with children’s
voices saying the seven days, the thirty-one dates,
the twelve months, the numbers from one to twenty, the ten main colours and the
names of the twenty-six lower-case letters (and their associated capitals). High
quality A3 images of the calendar charts, which may be printed at any size
provided they are not altered or sold, are available
on CALENDAR CHARTS for early language learning.

The Phoneme Machine Version 6.1 is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD to
anyone in the THRASS UK territory (the blue territory on the
World Map)
who completes the online form to
Register for the software.
It is available in PC and Mac
formats. Once you have registered
you will receive a Serial Number that will enable you to activate the programme. This covers its use
on any number of computers at the same address.
